Pop of Flavour: 5 Ways to Make Movie Night Exciting, or, the Homemade Pop Corn Bar of your Dreams

Updated: May 1, 2020

This is definitely a new for me: no steps or monologues on how much fresh vegetables can change your week and perspective on life. No. Just a few ideas on how to make your movie nights at home more enjoyable- short of going to the movies but other than their pop corn I really don’t appreciate sitting in a room full of strangers. In the dark. Have you ever seriously considered how creepy that is???

I took these shots while I was creating posts for a beautiful vineyard in Prince Edward County, Ontario, a very fun collaboration which ensued in a day of day-drinking and a romantic picnic with my friend Melanie- funny enough that was about 2 weeks before I found out I had just gotten pregnant- which I found out at her house as well. And there was also red wine present- no worries, in the first couple of weeks of pregnancy, the gestational sac is not formed yet (it forms between 5 and 7 weeks so basically the minute you find out you kiss that glass goodbye).

While I was at the vineyard, I noticed they had a pop corn bar which constituted of many shakers filled with different types of powdered herbs and spices. And I thought to myself, what a bunch of freaking geniuses. So, run to your spice rack, and look which ones of these you can recreate for your Sunday night movie! Below are just a few examples of fun ways to create your own at-home popcorn bar! I mainly got inspiration from the pop corn master who prepped the picnic baskets there. But the Internet will give you more ideas (we're talking infinity and beyond).

1. Cajun : paprika, onion powder, garlic powder, salt, black pepper, cayenne pepper (if you feel daring)

2. Southwest : chili powder, salt, ground cumin

3. Curry: curry powder, salt, black pepper, turmeric, cayenne pepper

4. Pizza: Parmesan cheese, oregano, salt, black pepper, red pepper flakes

5. Dill pickle: salt, dill powder, onion and garlic powder

*This one was the dill mix, made my day. Enjoy!
